Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser to late President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, says Nigeria’s progress is held back by poor leadership and corruption. Adesina made the remarks on Thursday during an annual public lecture organized by Foursquare Gospel Church, Aba Ibeji, in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State. He argues that Nigeria has the resources to move forward, citing a large youthful population, rich natural resources, fertile land, and a favorable geographic location. However, he says these endowments have not translated into wealth for citizens. Adesina also links the country’s challenges to the frustration experienced by many young people, including difficulties in finding good jobs and concerns about quality of life. He adds that promises from previous and current leaders have largely not been fulfilled, and he calls on current leadership to align actions with stated commitments so that citizens benefit from Nigeria’s resources. The statements focus on governance and accountability as central issues affecting national development.
