England announce a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against India later this month, naming Sussex all-rounder James Coles for his maiden ODI call-up and fast bowler Josh Tongue for his first ODI selection. Jofra Archer returns to the 50-over setup after being rested for the ODI series in Sri Lanka earlier this year. England also include Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood, both returning to ODI consideration after earlier absences: Atkinson is back from injury, while Mahmood returns after missing England’s winter fixtures due to a knee issue.

England’s squad is built around established players including Harry Brook (captain), Jos Buttler, Joe Root, Sam Curran and others, with spin options strengthened by the inclusion of Liam Dawson alongside Coles and further support from Adil Rashid. England will miss Brydon Carse, who is recovering from a hand injury, and Jamie Overton, ruled out with a quad problem. The ODI series starts at Edgbaston on July 14, moves to Cardiff on July 16, and ends at Lord’s on July 19. India is expected to select a full-strength side, with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah confirmed and Virat Kohli’s participation dependent on fitness.
