Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, says insecurity is the main factor limiting the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms. Speaking to APC members and supporters at his home in Igbere, Abia State, on Friday, Kalu praised the government’s economic direction, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms, which he said help attract foreign investment. However, he argued that ongoing security problems continue to delay a full turnaround in the manufacturing sector and other wider economic gains.

Kalu specifically pointed to the movement of arms into Nigeria from parts of Africa, citing a land-border inflow through the Mali, Libya and Burkina Faso axis. He said arms are crossing into Nigeria and that the Tinubu administration is working to fight insecurity. In addition, Kalu addressed the recently passed State Police Bill in the Senate, saying concerns about possible misuse by governors would be addressed through regulatory measures by the Executive and the Senate to prevent abuse.

He also urged APC members to mobilize support for Tinubu and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
