The Nigerian Eye also reports that APC party leaders contribute toward support for the victims, and that the state’s APC women leader, Adekemi Opatunde, gives ₦5 million and distributes 15,000 nose masks to help improve safety within the market.
Separately, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, donates ₦2.5 million to fire victims at Bode Market, described as support for shop owners and traders who lost goods. Another report from The Punch says former minister Adebayo Adelabu provides ₦5 million to traders affected by the same Oyo market fire.
The fire is reported to have broken out late at night and to have destroyed several shops and goods worth millions of naira, particularly in the herbal section of the market. No deaths are reported, and eyewitnesses say the cause remains unknown. Traders call for preventive measures to avert future disasters.
