Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez is placed on the 7-day injured list after sustaining a concussion when a ball struck the back of his helmet during a game against the Los Angeles Angels. Multiple reports say Rodríguez is hit in the back of the head while attempting to participate in a first-inning play that involved a ground ball turned into a double-play attempt. After being struck, Rodríguez is removed from the game and does not return. The Mariners make a corresponding roster move by selecting the contract of infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni from Triple-A Tacoma.

The injury occurs during Seattle’s 1–0 win over the Angels on Thursday night. In that first inning, Rodríguez is running from first to second on a ground ball when the play develops: first baseman Nolan Schanuel fields the ball and makes a throw toward second base to begin the double-play. Rodríguez’s placement on the injured list follows his concussion diagnosis, with the move announced the next day.
