Singapore’s police force plans to create a dedicated Cyber Command to strengthen its response to scams and cybercrime. Channel NewsAsia reports that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) will set up the new unit to consolidate counter-scam and cybercrime capabilities across the force. The Straits Times adds that the Cyber Command is scheduled to begin operations in July. Minister of State for Home Affairs Goh Pei Ming says the unit will start with about 200 officers, with plans to increase the strength over time, potentially doubling the number of officers in the future. The new command is intended to improve coordination and effectiveness in dealing with online crimes, including scam-related cases and other cyber-related offences. Together, the reports indicate that the initiative is focused on bringing relevant expertise under one organisational structure, expanding manpower as the unit scales up, and enhancing the police’s capability to address evolving scam and cyber threats.
