Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says the first phase of India’s Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train will open in 2027. According to the announcements, the segment from Surat to Bilimora is planned for inauguration that year. Vaishnaw also states that construction on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor has crossed nearly 80% completion. The project is reported to use Japanese Shinkansen technology for India’s first bullet train service.

In addition to the progress update, the minister points to related railway infrastructure work in Ahmedabad, including upgrades such as underpasses and station redevelopment. Both reports describe the 2027 timeline specifically for the Surat–Bilimora section, presenting it as the initial operational phase rather than a complete end-to-end Mumbai–Ahmedabad service. The sources collectively frame the corridor as part of a broader push for high-speed rail connectivity between major cities, with the reduced travel time between key locations cited as an intended outcome.
