An improvised explosive device (IED) explosion kills one person and injures nine others along the Komala village axis in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. Multiple reports attribute the incident to a passenger trailer striking the device while travelling the route. One account, citing security sources, says the blast occurs at about 1:30pm on July 2 as a trailer driven by Isa Uba travels from Maiduguri to Damboa. Police and security sources cited by the outlets say the explosive device is suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP elements along the route.
Following the explosion, a joint response team is deployed to the scene, including military personnel and police tactical units as well as explosive ordnance disposal (EOD-CBRN) operatives, members of the civilian joint task force (CJTF), and local hunters. Reports state that the injured passengers are evacuated to a hospital for treatment, while the deceased is taken for medical certification before being released to family for burial according to Islamic rites. Security forces carry out combing operations in the area to prevent further attacks, and EOD personnel render the scene safe after the blast.
