The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is developing an eight-point development programme to reshape Delhi into a more sustainable, green and liveable city, according to officials. The plan, discussed at a recent meeting of the DDA’s advisory council chaired by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, focuses on issues including affordable housing, mobility, environmental management and heritage conservation.
Officials say the council reviews gaps between demand and supply of affordable housing, and addresses challenges linked to slums and Jhuggi-Jhopri clusters, including their relocation and rehabilitation. The roadmap also covers long-pending matters such as the regularisation and redevelopment of unauthorised colonies.
The meeting highlights broader urban concerns such as traffic congestion, pollution and urban flooding, along with heat islands. The DDA states that the programme is structured around planned growth and improving quality of life through coordinated development across housing, transport, environmental measures and heritage areas. Reporting from multiple outlets indicates the plan aims to support greener infrastructure while strengthening Delhi’s urban resilience and preserving cultural assets.
