A video showing Siya Goyal, an accused in the alleged murder of Pune-based businessman and her fiancé Ketan Agarwal, making a middle-finger gesture while being escorted by Pune Rural Police has gone viral and drawn criticism online. The incident occurred on Thursday during an investigation-related visit to her residence in the Market Yard area of Pune, when police officers completed a search and collected evidence before bringing her back to a police vehicle. As journalists gathered around the area, Goyal was seen raising her middle finger, prompting widespread social media outrage.
Goyal’s father, Praveen Goyal, rejects claims that the gesture was deliberate or directed at the media. He says Goyal injured her hand when the door of the police vehicle accidentally struck her fingers while she was getting in, and that the raised finger resulted from the injury rather than an obscene gesture.
The broader case involves allegations that Goyal and alleged partner Chetan Chaudhary pushed Agarwal into a gorge at Lohagad Fort on June 18. Goyal and Chaudhary are reported to be in 14-day judicial custody after a court declined further police custody. Investigators also say they have recovered deleted chats from the accused’s phones containing alleged coded language, and the investigation continues.
