Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to temporarily step aside to allow for an independent investigation into the fraud scandal involving the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and its self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi.Gbajabiamila had earlier denied any connection to Adeyemi, insisting that he petitioned security agencies in October 2025 after forged appointment letters surfaced. Adeyemi, now facing trial for forgery, impersonation, and fraud, maintains that Gbajabiamila issued him an appointment letter and has demanded an independent panel to clear his name.Speaking on Eagle 102.5 FM, Falana said the Presidency owed Nigerians explanations on how an agency “not created by law” found its way into the national budget, secured office space at the Federal Secretariat, opened accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and received staff postings from the Head of Service.“The government has a duty to ask Mr Gbajabiamila to step aside to allow for a full investigation in the interest of the country and even in his own interest,” Falana stated.He further questioned how ₦24 billion was budgeted for the non-existent agency, stressing that the National Assembly must also explain its role since appropriation bills originate from the Executive.Falana warned that the scandal has exposed Nigeria to “unprecedented ridicule” and insisted that only a transparent probe could restore public confidence.
