A young woman’s viral social media account of alleged harassment during a train journey in Bihar is drawing renewed attention to women’s safety on public transport. In posts shared online, she says the incident occurred on July 3 while travelling from Siwan to Patliputra in a general coach. She claims she fell asleep on an upper berth and, after the train reached Chhapra, several elderly men seated below her repeatedly touched her without her consent. She says she first asked one man to keep his hand down, but the touching allegedly continued. She then describes another alleged incident in which a different man reached up while she tried to create distance on the berth, prompting her to leave the coach to look for a safer place.
According to her account, she entered another coach that was overcrowded and ended up sitting near an entrance outside an AC coach. She further alleges that a young man approached her, claimed links to an examination centre, offered to help in return for money, and repeatedly asked for her phone number despite her refusal. She says he got off at Dighwara and she finally felt some relief. The posts have prompted calls for authorities to take action and for harassment complaints to be lodged immediately.
