The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) issues a public health alert after laboratory tests find high levels of mercury and lead in three cosmetic products. The FDA names Goree Beauty Cream, Face Fresh Gold (Beauty Cream + Beauty Serum), and Golden Star Beauty Cream as “Not of Standard Quality” (NSQ) products due to heavy metals exceeding permissible limits, which the regulator says makes them unsafe for human use.
The FDA also cites labelling and information shortcomings in the flagged products. It says they do not clearly provide the manufacturer’s name and address and lack mandatory details such as batch number, manufacturing date and expiry date, raising concerns about traceability and compliance.
In response, the FDA orders an immediate stop to the sale and distribution of these products. It directs retailers, wholesalers, distributors and e-commerce platforms to discontinue selling, stocking and display and to initiate a market recall. Distributors and stockists are also asked to report available stock and submit details of recalled quantities to the relevant FDA office.
The FDA urges consumers to purchase cosmetics only from authorised sources and to check for complete labelling. It also provides helpline and email details for reporting availability or sale of the products.
