The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) issues a public health alert warning consumers against using three cosmetic products after laboratory testing finds elevated levels of heavy metals. The FDA declares “Not of Standard Quality” (NSQ) the Goree Beauty Cream, Face Fresh Gold (Beauty Cream + Beauty Serum), and Golden Star Beauty Cream, citing mercury and lead in excess of permissible limits.
Officials also raise concerns about product labeling. The FDA reports that the cosmetics do not include the manufacturer’s name and address and do not carry mandatory information such as batch number, manufacturing date, and expiry date. The regulator links these issues to concerns about safety and authenticity.
In response, the Maharashtra FDA directs retailers, distributors, wholesalers, and e-commerce platforms to stop selling, stocking, displaying, or distributing the listed creams immediately. Retailers and distributors are also asked to report available stock and initiate a market recall, providing details of recalled quantities to the relevant FDA office. The FDA advises consumers to buy cosmetics only from authorized sources and to ensure complete labeling, and it provides a helpline and email for reporting the sale or availability of the products.
