A staff shortage at the Home for Elderly in Kumanovo is reported as creating an urgent situation. According to MRT, the institution is meant to operate with about 80 employees but currently functions with only 36. The home provides services for more than 170 residents, and the lack of personnel affects daily care needs, including in its geriatric department, where some users cannot complete basic activities without assistance.
The acting director, Aleksandar Krstevski, states that administrative capacity is extremely limited, citing only two employees and the absence of key roles such as an accountant, lawyer, human resources staff and a social worker. He says the most needed staff are caregivers and nurses, noting that remaining workers are working extensively, described as working 150% to keep the facility running.
The report adds that the home has informed relevant authorities about the problem multiple times in recent years. The new director has already informed the responsible ministry and the facility is awaiting an urgent response. To partially address care and support needs, the home has signed cooperation memorandums with vocational schools, where students are expected to volunteer and help improve service quality.
