APC rejects Adeleke’s response to Government House criminals allegations in Osun

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected Governor Ademola Adeleke’s response to serious allegations that wanted criminals are being sheltered within the Government House, describing the governor’s denial as “grossly evasive.”    The controversy escalated after Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, during a visit to the Osun State Government House in Osogbo on Friday, disclosed that he had received intelligence indicating wanted criminals were being protected on the premises.    In a statement issued on Saturday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, the APC maintained that Governor Adeleke failed to adequately address the weighty allegations.“The response of the governor to this weighty allegation of his keeping some of the daredevil criminals in the Government House was grossly evasive and was at variance with the expected response to the allegation,” Olabisi said.     The party further alleged that a viral video showed a wanted suspect on the police watch list leading members of his group into a room within the Government House. It also claimed that some individuals on the police wanted list had been appointed as political functionaries by the governor, and referenced photographs allegedly showing the governor in the company of political thugs at public functions.    Reacting on behalf of the Imole Campaign Council, Director of Strategic Communication, Jamiu Olawumi, dismissed the APC’s claims as baseless and an attempt to tarnish the image of both the governor and the Nigeria Police Force.    “That allegation is spurious and irresponsible and it is another attempt to smear the image of the Nigerian Police Force,” Olawumi stated. He argued that security personnel attached to the Government House would have reported any such criminal activity if it were true.     Olawumi accused the APC of projecting its own past practices onto the current administration and emphasized that Governor Adeleke has consistently maintained zero tolerance for criminality.“The governor has said no criminal should be spared, even if the person was his biological child,” he added.     The exchange highlights the rising political tensions in Osun State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election. Governor Adeleke had earlier directed security agencies to arrest all suspected criminals in the state without exception.
