Demolitions targeting encroachments within the 50-metre Full Tank Level (FTL) buffer zone of the Bhoj Wetland (Upper Lake) in Bhopal resume after a 65-day pause, according to reports from the district administration and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). After the February 25 start following demarcation of the buffer area, officials say they identified 347 permanent encroachments. However, by the latest round of action, only about 57–58 structures have been removed, leaving roughly 290 still standing. On Saturday, a BMC and administrative joint effort demolished seven illegal structures in areas including Gaura village, Bishankhedi and Sewania Gond within the TT Nagar zone. This included an under-construction house, boundary walls and tin sheds, along with other structures linked to specific properties described by officials.
Separately, the administration prepares further demolitions at the Boat Club area ahead of a National Green Tribunal (NGT) submission deadline for an Action Taken Report (ATR) on July 9. Reports state five months into the campaign, demolition pace remains slow, with officials saying phased action continues except where High Court interim stay orders protect certain properties. The administration says it is pursuing legal steps to vacate those stays.
