Malawi outlets report that the family of Tamara Munthali, a senior Malawian government official at the Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA), is correcting circulating social media claims about the cause of her death. Multiple reports state that speculation had suggested she died after undergoing a cosmetic body enlargement or related procedure, including claims that she was in South Africa and that the matter involved complications from cosmetic surgery.
According to the reports, the family’s position is that Munthali died of acute kidney failure, not cosmetic surgery. Malawi Voice says it has established this “exclusively,” citing information gathered from a close family member. Malawi Nation similarly reports that the family is setting the record straight, stating that Munthali’s death was due to kidney failure and not any cosmetic procedure.
Both outlets frame the response as an effort to counter misinformation that spread online, while aligning on the same underlying cause of death: acute kidney failure.
