Three Nigerian soldiers are reportedly killed and several others injured after a patrol vehicle strikes a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Niger State. Two outlets report the incident based on a social media post by conflict and security journalist Bakatsine. Bakatsine says the blast occurred on Saturday morning near Babanna in Borgu Local Government Area, on the Dekara axis, between Machiyan Gyada and Baturen Daji. He reports that troops were returning from a security patrol when the explosion happened.
As of the time of the reports, neither the Nigerian Armed Forces nor the Niger State government has issued an official statement confirming the details or providing figures on casualties. The incident follows other reported IED-related attacks in northern Nigeria in recent weeks, which sources say has renewed concern about the use of roadside bombs targeting security forces in parts of the region.
