Mumbai remains under an IMD red alert as heavy rainfall continues with strong winds and high-tide conditions. Mayor Ritu Tawde appeals to residents to avoid non-essential travel and to stay indoors, saying people should not step out until at least July 8–10. She also warns that wind has increased the risk of trees, branches and other debris falling, advising citizens to stay away from trees and hazardous areas and to park vehicles only in safer locations.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) steps up its emergency response and issues repeated weather updates to residents. BMC-run schools remain closed for Monday and Tuesday, with extensions depending on the weather. The city administration also advises private employers to allow work from home where possible and urges people to follow official instructions and not spread rumours.
In addition, the BMC issues a specific safety advisory for construction sites in light of wind speeds reportedly reaching 80–90 kmph. The advisory directs stakeholders to secure scaffolding and loose materials, inspect cranes and lifting equipment, safeguard excavated areas, ensure workers use PPE, and suspend work at heights if conditions pose risk.
For assistance, residents are directed to BMC’s 24-hour helpline 1916.
