Sule Lamido, a former Jigawa State governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urges candidates preparing for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections to focus on policy issues rather than personal attacks. Lamido makes the call on Saturday while hosting PDP governorship candidates from several northern states—reported as Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, and Yobe—at his hometown in Bamaina, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area. He says campaigns should be centered on ideas and solutions and argues that politicians should explain what they and their parties will offer Nigerians instead of attacking opponents over past actions or personalities.

Lamido also highlights national issues he believes should dominate political debate, including insecurity, education, the economy, and corruption. He links an issue-focused approach to the prospect of a government that better serves the public if the PDP wins power. One of the visiting candidates, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, a former Minister of Communications and PDP governorship candidate for Gombe, praises Lamido for his consistency and for giving guidance as the candidates prepare for the 2027 political contests.
