Police in Sokoto State say they stopped a suspected bandit attack at Daraye Village in Wamako Local Government Area early Saturday. According to reports, security agencies received a distress call about armed men invading the community around 1:35 a.m., prompting the deployment of police personnel from units including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Village Crime Reduction Unit, along with other tactical teams.

Police say the teams engaged the assailants in a gun duel after arriving at the Wamako Divisional Headquarters. Authorities report that the attackers withdrew and retreated into nearby forest areas. A subsequent search led to the killing of one suspected bandit.

The police also report recovering an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition at the scene. One report specifies the recovery of a magazine containing 28 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. Police state they have intensified patrols and placed nearby divisions on alert to deter further attacks and intercept any suspects who may try to flee or seek medical treatment.

The reports provide no additional details about civilian casualties or arrests beyond the recovered weapon and the death of one suspected attacker.
