West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announces a ₹313 crore (reported as ₹313.30 crore) welfare and assistance package for tea garden workers in North Bengal. The funding is linked to the Central scheme “Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana” (PMCSPY), with the state-level committee finalizing an implementation plan for rolling out the programme. Adhikari says the initiative aims to improve welfare and also support health and educational parameters for “tea garden workers.” A statement says ₹177 crore is allocated toward boosting educational infrastructure for the families of tea garden workers, while the overall scheme totals ₹313.30 crore. The North Bengal Development Department (NBDD) is named as the executing agency, working with the Health Department, the Paschim Banga Samagra Siksha Mission, and district administrations to implement the measures. Both reports present the announcement as part of the state’s effort to ensure expeditious and smooth progress under the Central initiative, with Adhikari reiterating a commitment to the well-being of “Cha Shramiks.”
