Mahindra is reassuring customers about India’s ethanol-blended petrol transition, saying its E20-compliant vehicles are ready after extensive testing. In a post on X dated July 5, 2026, the automaker says its E20-compatible petrol vehicles have been tested thoroughly with 20% ethanol fuel and that safety, reliability, and performance are its priorities. Mahindra also frames the move to E20 as a step that supports energy security and sustainability, and says it is committed to helping rollout the fuel in a responsible manner.
The statement comes after a joint press conference involving India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Ministry of Heavy Industries, and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, along with senior auto-industry executives. Other automakers cited in coverage include Toyota and Maruti Suzuki. Toyota is reported to have approved the shift to E20 only after rigorous testing, including tests on older vehicles, and Maruti Suzuki is reported to have tested E10-designed vehicles using E20 across parameters and found no concerns, while also servicing millions of vehicles without reporting E20-related issues such as corrosion or excess wear.
