Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton is placed on the 10-day injured list after aggravating a right hip injury that has lingered through much of the season. Buxton left a game against the New York Yankees in the first inning, after a sequence involving a thrown-out attempt to steal second base and an awkward slide during a full-count pitch. He had been dealing with the hip issue and had only returned to the Twins lineup on Saturday. Multiple reports say the injury has persisted for a large part of the year, and the IL stint is Buxton’s first time going on the injured list this season.
Buxton is also an American League All-Star, voted as a starter for next week’s All-Star Game. As a result of the IL placement, he is expected to be sidelined through the All-Star break. The teams’ decision reflects continued management of the hip problem following the early exit versus the Yankees.
