JD Sports is reissuing almost €250,000 in unspent gift card credit to Irish customers. Multiple reports say the company will reissue 5,604 gift cards where an outstanding balance of €10 or more was cancelled when the cards reached their expiry dates. The decision follows an issue in which JD Sports sold gift cards with incorrect expiry dates to Irish consumers. As a result, some customers see balances removed once the cards expired, despite still having value remaining. Under the reissue plan, the retailer restores credit by issuing new gift cards to affected customers, rather than the previously cancelled balances. The total value involved is reported as nearly €250,000. The arrangement focuses on gift cards with higher remaining balances, reflecting a €10 threshold for reissuing credits. The reports present the reissue as a corrective step for the expiry-date error, aiming to return unused value to customers whose gift card balances were affected.
