Mumbai is bracing for another day of intense monsoon weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts continuous spells of rain across the city and suburbs, with very heavy rainfall in some areas and extremely heavy rain in isolated locations. The IMD also warns that gusty winds may reach 60–70 km/h, which can increase the risk of tree falls, waterlogging, and disruptions.
Civic authorities also issue coastal and flooding-related cautions. BMC alerts residents to expected high tides, noting that heavy rain coinciding with high tide can slow drainage and raise the risk of flooding, particularly for people living in low-lying and coastal areas.
Alongside the weather warning, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) releases a leptospirosis health advisory due to increased monsoon risk. BMC says the bacterial infection can be contracted when floodwater or stagnant rainwater contaminated with animal urine enters the body through cuts, wounds, or even minor abrasions. Residents who have been exposed are advised to seek medical consultation and preventive treatment within 24–72 hours and to watch for symptoms such as fever, red eyes, jaundice, and body aches. BMC urges people to avoid walking through stagnant water when possible, use waterproof footwear, clean wounds, and follow doctors’ advice if symptoms develop.
