Police in Mumbai arrest two people in connection with the collapse of an illegal four-storey building in Mankhurd that kills six residents. The incident occurs in New Mandala, at Chawl No. 5, Janata Nagar, Mankhurd, during heavy rains. Authorities register an FIR for culpable homicide and related provisions, alleging that the structure was built without following mandatory safety norms.

According to the complaint lodged by a local resident, the building remained in a dangerous condition for some time and those responsible allegedly did not take corrective action or implement safety precautions for an adjoining hutment. Police say the illegal building later collapses onto the neighbouring hut, leading to the deaths of six occupants.

In connection with the case, police arrest the building owner, identified as Abdul Wahid, and the contractor, identified as Ghulam Raza Sayyed. Investigators also probe whether other private individuals and government officials played a role in enabling the unauthorised construction despite alleged awareness of violations. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full set of responsibilities.
