Nintendo says it will stop supplying the original Nintendo Switch line to retailers in Europe from mid-February 2027, effectively ending sales of the Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED in that region around the models’ 10th anniversary. Multiple outlets report the change applies to availability through European retail partners and also includes a halt to sales on the official Nintendo Store for European customers in the same timeframe.
The decision is linked to new European battery-related requirements. Reporting describes an EU “Right to Repair” approach that requires products to allow users to change batteries themselves. Outlets say updating the original Switch hardware to meet those obligations is not viewed as cost-effective, and Nintendo has therefore moved to discontinue the current models in Europe rather than redesign them.
Nintendo also indicates it is preparing revised hardware that complies with the directive, with plans described as beginning in summer 2025 for Switch 2-related products featuring replaceable batteries. The company notes revised products may not launch simultaneously across all European countries due to factors such as supply and component availability.
