The Supreme Court does not entertain an appeal filed against an order of the Madras High Court concerning a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the purchase of transformers in Tamil Nadu. According to both reports, the Supreme Court refuses to interfere with the High Court’s decision and declines to grant the relief sought through a special leave petition.
The apex court also makes clear that the investigation should continue independently. It advises that the CBI’s work in the matter should not be influenced by any observations made by the Madras High Court while passing its order. In effect, the Supreme Court’s action keeps the High Court’s directive intact and allows the investigation to proceed without additional judicial directions beyond ensuring independent functioning.
No change is made by the Supreme Court to the existing framework for the CBI probe, and the matter remains governed by the Madras High Court order, subject to the Supreme Court’s instruction that the investigation proceeds on its own assessment of facts and evidence.
