Hamas announces the final dissolution of its Gaza governing authorities and says administrative governance will transition to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) under a technical framework backed by the United Nations as part of a US-brokered ceasefire plan. Hamas officials state that only “technical and professional” staff will remain temporarily to run daily affairs and that the emergency committee is being ended to facilitate the handover. Hamas media head Ismail al-Thawabta says the change is intended to enable the administrative transition to the NCAG.
Israel responds by warning the move is not meaningful, saying Hamas structures would remain in place and calling for complete demilitarisation of the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials also argue the announcement is a public-relations effort rather than a genuine transfer of authority.
In parallel, the “Board of Peace” linked to the Trump administration says any legitimate transfer of power must include a corresponding transfer of weapons to the NCAG, echoing a principle of “one authority, one law and one weapon.” Associated Press reporting says the NCAG is based in Cairo and is chaired by Ali Shaath, with a mandate focused on restoring essential services and overseeing civilian affairs under UN and Board of Peace supervision.
Experts cited by Middle East Eye describe Hamas’s move as signaling good faith while deferring the more difficult issue of demilitarisation amid continuing Israeli attacks and disputed ceasefire implementation.
