President Lee Jae Myung departs Tuesday for Turkey as the first leg of a two-country trip that includes attending the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit before heading to Mongolia. Lee travels to Ankara, where leaders of NATO’s 32 member states—including U.S. President Donald Trump—are scheduled to meet from Tuesday to Wednesday. Lee attends the summit at the invitation of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. After arriving in Ankara, Lee is set to meet with Rutte shortly thereafter. The presidential office says Lee will also hold a meeting with representatives from Japan, Australia and New Zealand, the three countries that together with South Korea make up NATO’s Indo-Pacific Four (IP4). On the sidelines of the summit, Lee is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at a defense industry forum, including a session titled “Shared Values, Stronger Industrial Base.” On Wednesday, Lee is expected to take part in a series of bilateral meetings with other participating leaders, before concluding this stage of his trip.
