Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta as the two leaders seek to build on the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in May 2018. Modi arrives for what is described as his fourth visit to Indonesia and says he is “touched” by Prabowo personally receiving him at the airport. The visit begins with a ceremonial welcome, including the exchange of national anthems, schoolchildren lining the route to Merdeka Palace, and a reported hug between the two leaders.

The leaders’ Tuesday talks focus on expanding cooperation across defence and maritime partnerships, critical minerals, food security, and the digital economy, with a review of progress under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Multiple agreements are announced during the visit. These include defence-related arrangements such as cooperation on BrahMos missile supply and Astra air-to-air missiles, as well as a framework for maritime safety and security and deals linked to critical mineral and steel supply chains and election technology.

Prabowo also delivers remarks praising Modi’s development approach during a banquet. Modi receives Indonesia’s highest honour, the Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia, and the two leaders are scheduled to travel to Yogyakarta to visit the Prambanan Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
