Phantom Studios has filed a ₹250 crore lawsuit against JioStar and the makers of Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film “Queen 2,” alleging infringement of intellectual property rights. Multiple outlets report that the case is filed in the Bombay High Court. Phantom Studios claims the film is being developed as an “unauthorised sequel” and that it holds rights related to the original “Queen,” including the right to produce sequels. The dispute centers on Phantom Studios’ assertion that it did not grant consent for any “adaptation or derivative works” based on the original film. Reports say Phantom Studios attempted to resolve the issue before turning to litigation, citing repeated communications and settlement discussions with the other party. According to one account, legal action followed after those efforts failed and after Phantom Studios learned that “Queen 2” had completed filming. The original “Queen” (2014) is described as jointly produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Phantom Films, a company later dissolved in 2018 and later revived under the Phantom Studios banner in 2021. “Queen 2” is reported to be in post-production after wrapping production, with Kangana Ranaut and director Vikas Bahl returning.
