Phantom Studios has filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court seeking Rs 250 crore, alleging that the upcoming Kangana Ranaut film “Queen 2” is an unauthorized sequel and infringes its intellectual property rights. Both reports say the legal action targets JioStar and is tied to Phantom Studios’ claim of ownership over part of the IP in the original “Queen” (2014), including rights related to producing sequels. According to the reports, Phantom Studios says it communicated its concerns multiple times and held settlement discussions with JioStar before approaching the court.
The makers of “Queen 2,” which reportedly reunites Ranaut with director Vikas Bahl, are said to have already completed filming and are in post-production. One report adds that Phantom Studios’ decision to sue followed perceived non-response after prior attempts to resolve the matter, including a public notice issued in April. Phantom Studios alleges it did not grant consent for any adaptation or derivative works based on the original film. The case is ongoing.
