Prime Minister Narendra Modi starts a visit to Jakarta that is expected to advance defence and strategic cooperation with Indonesia. Multiple outlets report that India and Indonesia plan to sign several agreements during talks with President Prabowo Subianto, with at least one focus on missile procurement.

An Indian government official cited by Dawn says Indonesia will buy BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles from India, along with Astra beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles. Dawn reports that the deal is discussed as being worth about $630 million, and that it would make Indonesia the third country to sign an agreement to purchase BrahMos missiles. The report also says the missiles are manufactured by BrahMos Aerospace, a company co-owned by Indian and Russian governments, and that the cruise missile system is jointly developed by the two countries.

Dawn adds that Indonesian officials have previously said the BrahMos arrangement is in advanced stages, and outlines expected components such as missile systems, supporting infrastructure, operator training, maintenance services, and technical assistance. Other coverage, including DW and The Independent, frames the visit as part of broader discussions that may include defence industrial cooperation and Indo-Pacific strategic coordination, alongside a wider set of agreements.
