Aslam Aliyu, described as an ally of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and previously active in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) political camp in Zamfara State, resigns from the ADC and joins the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to her statement, Aliyu says she has reached her decision after reflecting on Nigeria’s political direction and on what she calls the opposition’s lack of a meaningful development blueprint or a viable national “rescue plan.” She argues the ADC mainly criticises the government without offering workable solutions. Aliyu also calls for political engagement to move beyond what she characterizes as “theatrical criticism,” urging Nigerians—particularly youths and women—to align with the Tinubu-led administration. She publicly expresses support for President Bola Tinubu and argues that the opposition cannot unseat him in the 2027 presidential election. APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda welcomes the defection, saying it strengthens the APC ranks and is consistent with the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” The reports also note Aliyu’s prior roles in mobilising support for Atiku’s 2027 bid, including leading the Project Atiku Abubakar (PAA) 2027.
