The Delhi High Court on Tuesday orders the unblocking and restoration of the Cockroach Janta Party’s X account, revoking a blocking order issued by the Centre. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma passes the order on a petition filed by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, challenging the government’s action. The court directs that the party’s original X handle be made accessible again.

According to submissions reported from the hearing, the Centre had withheld the account in May with the stated aim of preventing “chaos” among students and parents ahead of the June 21 NEET re-test. The court notes that the NEET exam has already taken place, and therefore the basis for the block is no longer applicable. In its ruling, the court allows the petition and revokes the earlier blocking order.

The party’s X account began as a satirical digital outfit after controversy related to remarks by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, with the handle being blocked on May 21. The group subsequently resurfaced under a new handle, “Cockroach is Back,” which has a substantial following.
