In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, a road accident involving a passenger bus results in the death of two cows. Reports say the bus, travelling from Indore to Ujjain, hits the animals near Ramvasa village in the Nanakheda police station area late on Monday night. The cows die on the spot. A video circulating online shows the bus overturning and catching fire, with thick black smoke rising over the highway as onlookers watch.
Several accounts describe anger among local villagers after the crash. Villagers stop the bus and, according to allegations reported by outlets, set the vehicle on fire. By the time police and firefighters arrive, the bus is reportedly reduced to ashes. Police say some people allegedly vandalise the bus before the fire starts, but they also note that the exact cause is not confirmed. Nanakheda police indicate a short circuit is among the possibilities, and the cause will be determined after investigation. Police register a case and are investigating.
Separately in Ujjain/Unhel, another report describes a man arrested over alleged cow slaughter being paraded through streets in handcuffs, made to chant slogans, and shown performing sit-ups under police supervision, following complaints by VHP and Bajrang Dal.
