Dharma Productions, led by Karan Johar, acquires distribution rights in India for Ranbir Kapoor’s film “Ramayana: Part 1” in a deal reported to be worth Rs 250 crore. Multiple outlets report that Dharma Productions will handle distribution across the Indian market as part of the release of the first installment in a planned two-part saga. NDTV says the transaction is made with Namit Malhotra’s DNGE and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. Times of India reports that the film is an ensemble project with a large production scale and that its music is composed by Oscar-winning artists A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The same outlet also states that “Ramayana: Part 1” is scheduled for a Diwali release. The reports collectively describe the agreement as focused on Indian distribution rather than overseas rights, and they frame the film as a major high-budget mythological production.
