A Shiv Sena corporator, Ramesh Mhatre, is accused of assaulting doctors and nurses at KDMC’s Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli, after a dispute over a patient’s treatment and alleged delays. Multiple outlets report the incident occurs after doctors decide to shift a newborn to another facility because the NICU is full. Viral video footage shows Mhatre and others confronting medical staff.

In the days after the assault, Maharashtra’s medical community protests, with some doctors suspending non-emergency services and staff reporting fear and trauma. One doctor and other staff members submit resignations, citing ongoing safety concerns and threats. Political leaders across parties condemn the attack and say action should be taken as per law. Police register an FIR and arrest several accused, while Mhatre becomes the key suspect.

Court proceedings follow. According to reports, a Kalyan court sends Mhatre to police custody for a period, after which he is later granted bail by the court on a cash bond. Media accounts also describe doctors being traumatised, hospitals facing disruptions, and investigations continuing into the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
