Israeli police open an investigation after CCTV footage shows a border police officer throwing a stun grenade into a car during a raid on the Qalandiya refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. Multiple outlets report that the footage is released by the Israeli rights group B’Tselem. It shows the officer approaching the vehicle while shouting at its occupants during a Sunday raid. After a brief interaction, the officer reaches for his belt, removes a stun grenade, and throws it through an open car door while pushing the door shut as the driver attempts to exit. The grenade then detonates, filling the area with smoke, and the car’s two young passengers move out of the vehicle through the other side.

B’Tselem says all people inside the car survive. It also depicts the officer shouting during the incident and firing his rifle moments after the grenade blast as passengers take cover. Israeli police say the officer acted “not in accordance with procedure” and that the justice ministry’s department responsible for investigating police officers is handling the case. The officer is suspended pending the investigation.
