Microsoft is addressing a Windows 11 issue that can cause the system to use unusually large amounts of disk space. Multiple outlets report that a bug related to the file CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal can lead the file to grow to hundreds of gigabytes or otherwise occupy several gigabytes on affected PCs.

The problem is tied to disk usage by a Windows system component rather than user-created files. Windows Latest previously flagged the behavior, and Microsoft has now responded by including a fix in an optional update released in June 2026. The patch is identified as KB5095093 and is described as improving disk space usage for the CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal file. Once installed, the update is intended to prevent or reduce the storage bloat associated with that specific database write-ahead log.

While the articles emphasize the file’s unexpected growth as the core symptom, they do not indicate the issue affects all devices equally. Users are advised to install the optional update if they see unusually high storage consumption attributed to system files.
