Multiple outlets report claims from a Weibo leaker, “Fixed Focus Digital,” that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models will be thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro line. The posts cite leaked materials attributed to Apple supplier Tata and state that the iPhone 18 Pro’s aluminum structure and the camera housing/camera plateau are expected to increase in thickness. The leaker specifically suggests about a 2mm increase compared with the iPhone 17 Pro, and describes the resulting final thickness as “somewhat surprising.”
One report also frames the change as a continuing use of an aluminum alloy mid-frame in “straight-edge phones,” rather than a return to titanium, and links the increased thickness to a redesigned main camera system. The iPhone 18 Pro is widely rumored to introduce Apple’s first variable aperture camera, which is described as a costlier component than the current fixed-aperture lens; production is said to be ramping up at suppliers including LG Innotek and Sunny Optical.
Reports also reference earlier dummy-model estimates that place the iPhone 18 Pro’s overall thickness around 9.9–10.9mm, compared with 8.75mm for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to launch in September alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone, per the outlets’ reporting.
