Goa’s Transport Department is considering new restrictions on rental operators of Mahindra Thar SUVs following a string of road accidents, NDTV reports. Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said the state will hold a high-level meeting with Transport Department officials and consider stopping new licences for “high-risk” rental vehicles. The state is also working on measures aimed at improving compliance and enforcement. Among the proposed steps are stricter audits of rental operators, fines of Rs 10,000 for safety violations, and the use of AI-powered traffic surveillance to monitor road behaviour and detect unsafe activity. The measures are intended to address safety concerns associated with the rental use of these SUVs, with the government evaluating how to implement the licensing pause and what criteria to apply when classifying vehicles or operators as high-risk. The reporting indicates that the plan is still under consideration and tied to further consultations and enforcement planning within the Transport Department.
