Apple is releasing a new developer beta firmware build for several AirPods and audio products in preparation for upcoming platform updates. Multiple outlets report that the firmware is being tested ahead of iOS 27, along with related updates such as iPadOS 27 and macOS “Golden Gate.” The beta is limited to developers and is not available to the general public.

The reported build number is 9A5314b. It targets AirPods 4, AirPods Pro models including AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods Max 2. The firmware is intended to enable or align with new AirPods-related changes expected with iOS 27, including a new AirPods interface, a slider option for Adaptive mode, and support for custom EQ. Sources also note compatibility with new Siri AI features.

When AirPods are connected to an Apple device running iOS 26/iPadOS 26/macOS 26 or later, the AirPods settings interface provides a beta firmware option. Users can install the beta by connecting the AirPods to an Apple device and plugging them into power, and installation may take a few hours.
