Super Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) is not expected to make landfall or have direct impact on the Philippines, according to the state weather bureau. PAGASA says the storm may strengthen the southwest monsoon (habagat) and lead to wetter conditions across the country in the coming days. Current advisories indicate habagat is affecting parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected over the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the western portion of the Visayas. Another PAGASA update states that rains associated with the habagat are expected over parts of Visayas and Mindanao from Wednesday afternoon to early Thursday morning. PAGASA also cites the typhoon’s position as being roughly 1,170 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, with no direct effects reported for the rest of the country. Weather conditions are therefore driven mainly by the enhanced monsoon rather than any local typhoon landfall.
