Japan’s Noto Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture rebrands as the “Noto Satoyama Pokemon With You Airport” in an effort to support recovery and boost tourism in the Noto Peninsula, which was hit by a major earthquake in January 2024. According to Japanese media reports, the airport holds a reopening ceremony on Tuesday to mark the change. The themed branding runs through Sept. 30, 2029.
The airport displays Pokemon-related artwork and decorations throughout its terminal, including flying-type Pokemon designs. A large central balloon features Pikachu riding an airplane, and the site includes multiple indoor and outdoor photo stations. The airport also introduces exclusive attractions for travelers, such as special video content, themed restaurant menus, and limited-edition merchandise available only at the airport.
The initiative is described as a regional revival effort aimed at attracting visitors back to the quake-hit area. Sources also note that the airport’s new name is the only instance worldwide that includes the Pokemon brand in the airport’s official naming.
