Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, calls on President Bola Tinubu to suspend Femi Gbajabiamila before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) carries out its planned investigation into the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). Ibe argues that it is improper for officials allegedly connected to the matter to remain in office while the probe is ongoing, saying such officials effectively act as “judge in their own case” and could interfere with the process. He specifically mentions Gbajabiamila and Tinubu’s chief of staff among those he believes should step aside.

Tinubu had instructed the ICPC to investigate the PFIPC for 30 days. The Presidency says the PFIPC is fictitious and lacked legal basis or presidential approval. The probe follows allegations from a person styling himself as PFIPC’s director-general, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who claimed he paid N600 million to secure the position and alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded 48% of a take-off grant.

The Presidency dismisses Matthew as an impostor, but questions remain about how the alleged council secured a N1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act and opened accounts with Nigeria’s central bank.
