The Sandiganbayan Third Division issues multiple directives involving Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s custody and health checks related to his plunder case. After Marcoleta is arrested and confined at the PNP General Hospital, the court orders the CIDG and PNP General Hospital to bring him to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for a separate medical examination, and also requires updates on his custody and health status within 24 hours. The PNP later says it complies with court requests, including submitting Marcoleta’s medical report to the Sandiganbayan and having returned his arrest warrant documents earlier.
In subsequent hearings, medical findings from both PGH and the PNP General Hospital are cited. PGH finds Marcoleta has recovered from mild pneumonia, while the PNP General Hospital reports he is fit to travel. Based on these evaluations, the Sandiganbayan orders Marcoleta’s transfer to the New Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas, ending his hospital confinement that lasts about nine days. The PNP also publicly defends its medical assessment, stating it stands by its doctors’ findings despite the separate PGH examination.
