Epidemiologists in Prilep confirm that 44 workers at the company “Mikrosam” are poisoned by salmonella. The reported cases occur after employees ate a meal at the company’s dining facilities on Monday, 29 June. According to the Prilep Public Health Center, the implicated food was macaroni with eggs and a dairy component (“izvarка”), delivered by the catering firm “Rustika”. The center states that the attack rate is high, at 75.5%, and that six of those affected require hospital treatment.
Investigations are ongoing at the Institute of Public Health, which continues testing samples from the prepared meal. Authorities also carried out an emergency inspection at the catering company. During that inspection, they did not find the izvarка and eggs used for the meal, which is why additional analysis of samples remains part of the process.
Pending the results, the company’s kitchen serving the catering and the company dining area remain closed.
