The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigns Ahmed Adamu Dikko, former managing director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), before a Federal High Court in Abuja on a 12-count money laundering charge. Sources report the arraignment takes place before Justice Inyang Ekwo, with Dikko and a company, Masterpiece Projects & Investment Ltd, appearing as defendants. Dikko pleads not guilty to all counts, while the company also enters a not guilty plea.
The EFCC alleges that Dikko used about N218.4 million to acquire a property in Katampe extension, Abuja, without routing the funds through a financial institution, in alleged breach of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. The EFCC also cites allegations that he made a cash payment for the property and converted $77,080 through a third party, alongside other counts in the charge. The prosecution asks for a trial date.
Following the arraignment, the defence seeks bail, arguing that Dikko complied with earlier administrative bail conditions and will not interfere with the case. Justice Ekwo grants bail in the sum of N150 million with one surety in like amount, imposes conditions including verification of the surety’s landed property, deposit of Dikko’s international passport, and restrictions on travel. The case is adjourned for commencement of trial.
